How Drones Fly

Spinning props push air down — the drone goes up.

Beginner = bright + friendly · Advanced = dark + tech
Overview

Drones fly because the propellers push air down, which lifts the drone up.

Learning objective

Explain how propeller motion creates lift and steady hover.

Key vocabulary
  • Lift: Upward force created by spinning propellers.
  • Thrust: Force pushing the drone through the air.
  • Hover: Steady flight at one position.

Instructions

How to play · Hover Lab

Goal

Balance lift and gravity to hover the drone in the target band.

Controls
  • Throttle / Up arrow · Increase motor power (lift)
  • Down arrow · Decrease motor power
Win condition

Stay in the band until the timer completes.

  1. Watch the altitude bar — keep the drone inside the green band.
  2. Add throttle when it drifts down, ease off when it floats up.
  3. Small taps work better than long holds.
  4. Hold a steady hover for the timer to fill.
